That Darn Shirt

Here's the culprit, the baby shirt with bias seams from hell.

I wish I knew then what I know now...

How to friggin' use bias seam tape! Ugh!!! I had the darndest time "working" with bias tape on a baby shirt I was making for my daughter's boyfriend's baby sister's birthday present (that's another story). After hours of ripping seams and restitching I finally completed the tiny shirt. You have no idea how pissed I was to then find this great YouTube video from http://angrychicken.typepad.com/ Here's hoping this intervention has saved you hours of frustration.

Um, 'scuse me M'aam, your fly's open

Well of course it is! But is it really a fly if your head's poking through. Don't answer that - silly people. I mean real head, like head on your shoulders head. Get your minds right!!!

Check out my first project created on my vintage Singer 221 Featherweight - a cool shirt design by Ryan Moore, designer extraordinaire and member on Threadbanger.com's forums.

I really love this project! It has so much potential. Simply cut the waist band and zipper from a pair of old jeans and sew it over the neckline of a shirt. I'm thinking about replacing my tie belt with a real leather belt. How cool would that be!?!

Featherweight in my cap

I'm loving this little machine right about now. I had to take the bobbin case and case holder apart to remove some remnants of thread and lint today and really got to know this tiny yet amazing piece of machinery. All I can say is, I'm very impressed. Although not quite as powerful as her big sister "Brunhilda" (my 301A - sister and successor to the Singer 221 Featherweights. See that tan beauty in the background?) my Featherweight whom I've already named "Bunny", certainly holds her own. I was able to sew through several layers of heavy denim, even folded seams with no problem using a 15x1 18 needle.

Along with the machine I also received the original manual and a vintage sewing accessory. Did I mention this is a limited edition Centennial badged machine, "A Centrury of Sewing Service 1851 - 1951" written on the gold and blue badge. Oh yeah, I think I did ;)

My Celly - Tie Case

I've been out and about this week and haven't had a chance to make anything until now. This was quick... Check out my cell case made out of an old tie. Fits my Mogul Pocket PC phone perfectly with room to spare for my bluetooth headset.

Tie Gift Wrap

Almost forgot to share this with you. Its a pic of a gift I wrapped using ties as decoration. So, whaddya think? Whatz the gift you ask? Well, I can't really say, the recipient might be watching (shhhhhhhhh...).

Friday Night Sewing

Its a hot and lazy Friday night and I got the urged to stitch so I pulled out my unfinished sample lap quilt top that I've been ignoring for far too long. I'm too lazy to cut the sashing... How pathetic, right? I hope you're doing something fun tonight.
